NEW POSITIONS (Neil Rankin)
Neil Rankin (Gay, Foxfire, plus way more!) gets way out with his solo manifestations. Anti-beat poetry meets sludge rhythm jams. Dirty synth tones and bass loops buckle under each others weight. Free sax notes bubble from the deep. Literary hopes weave in & out of dark pulsating drone textures, abstract rhythm communicates with human speech patterns.

NOBUO KUBOTA & DAVID SAIT
In 1969, Nobuo Kubota abandoned a 10-year career in architecture to devote himself fully to sculpture and music. He pursued his late-night associations with a group of Toronto artists and musicians who, individually and collectively, were pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. From 1962 through 1976 he played saxophone with the Artist’s Jazz Band in Toronto.  They released four albums in two-record sets.  In 1974 he joined the Toronto free improvisation band known as CCMC (Canadian Creative Music Collective) and began experimenting with making sounds using a variety of ordinary objects including children’s toys.
Abstract expressionist musician, sculptor, sound poet, architect, videographer, zen buddhist, performance artist and 2009 Governor General’s Award recipient.  Nobuo Kubota’s creative riffs resonate through all disciplines. He currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.

Nobuo will be joined by David Sait on Chinese zither (guzheng) www.guzheng.ca in their first meeting.
